Yosefa Pessin is the Program Chair and Director of the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program.  A former Downstate graduate, she has a BS in Diagnostic Medical Imaging, an MS from University at Albany in curriculum development and educational technology, and a doctoral degree in health science from ATSU.  She has been a sonographer for over twenty five years and holds registry certifications in abdomen, ob-gyn, adult echocardiography and vascular technology.  Yosefa has worked clinically at world renown hospitals, as well as in outpatient and private practice settings.  She brings much clinical experience into the classroom and is a Senior member of the AIUM. A recipient of the Distinguished Educator’s Award, her passion for ultrasound education is well known. Dr. Pessin is involved in all aspects of the DMI program’s sonography curriculum, incorporating current trends and research, as well as clinical skills and didactic content into the ultrasound program.  She is a two-time recipient of the Kenneth Gottesfeld research award, and received the Distinguished Educators award from the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2022.  Dr. Pessin is actively involved in College service and serves on many committees. Her research areas of interest focus on infection control prevention, educational technology, and simulation.
